Mercosur
Mercosur is one of the focus areas which DEG turns its particular attention on. The Mercosur states have generally proved to be economically robust. Especially Brazil has developed well during the last years. At the same time, however, many people in that region still live below the poverty line. Resources and income are unevenly distributed. A big challenge is to further stimulate economy growth while putting an end to the increasing environmental destruction.
DEG has been active in Brazil since the mid-1960s and almost as long in Argentina. DEG's current portfolio in Latin America is about 1,2 billion euros. Investments in the Mercosur region account for some 470 million euros. So far, DEG has provided financing to a total of over 1,2 billion euros for about 230 projects in this region. In Brazil alone, DEG provided more than 110 million euros in 2010. In 2002, DEG opened its representative office for Mercosur in São Paulo, where enterprises find versed contacts with respect to their investment projects.
From DEG's point of view, there are interesting prospects for companies, for example in agribusiness and the manufacturing industry, but also in the field of infrastructure.
