For its commitment in the social and ecological field, Ristic AG has been awarded the ”Prize for corporate ethics” of the German Network for Economic Ethics (DNWE). The prize is awarded every two years to exemplary initiatives. DEG has been cooperating with the medium-sized enterprise since 2006. A joint PPP project in Costa Rica serves the purpose of setting up sustainable structures for organic shrimps cultivation.
The German Network for Economic Ethics gives the following reasons for awarding the prize to a specialist in sea food: “Ristic AG is a pioneer in the fight for environmentally friendly and socially compatible shrimp fishing. The prize is awarded for the long years of the company’s particularly complex, proactive and creative approach aimed at sustainable securing of maritime resources.”
In cooperation with two renowned universities – Universidad de Costa Rica and Universidad Earth - the PPP project of Ristic and DEG succeeded in creating the basis for ecologically sound husbandry technologies. For this purpose, existing cultivation farms in Costa Rica were, for instance, changed over to organic shrimps cultivation. More than 30 shrimps farmers have already reorganised their operations to biologically certified cultivation according to international standards, another 20 are to follow.
The PPP project, which was realised with funds from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, was concluded in November 2009. Ristic and DEG are currently planning another shrimps project in India.
